The first Avengers: Doomsday trailer has finally been released, and with it comes the best look yet at Robert Downey Jr.'s full Doctor Doom design. Previously, the MCU's Multiverse Saga was slated to see Kang the Conqueror serve as its main villain. However, after Jonathan Majors was fired by Marvel, the studio chose not to recast the role, casting Kang aside.
Now, Downey, who first played the hero that helped establish the MCU back in 2008's Iron Man, will give life to Doctor Doom, leading Avengers: Doomsday's star-studded cast. For a long time, fans have been asking to see what Downey's Doctor Doom looks like. Despite Marvel having released four Avengers: Doomsday teasers in theaters with Avatar: Fire and Ash, none of them featured Doctor Doom.
As such, the only peek at the new MCU main villain came in The Fantastic Four: First Steps. In the 2025 MCU movie, Victor von Doom's face was not shown, though fans could see his mask, as the character had taken it off to talk to Franklin Richards, Reed Richards and Sue Storm's son. Other details, like his green cloak, were also on display.
Since then, Avengers: Doomsday concept art featuring Doctor Doom has emerged from a few official Marvel events around the world, but fans had to wait for the first Avengers: Doomsday trailer to be shared online to finally see it in motion. Now, Marvel has finally released the Avengers: Doomsday trailer ahead of San Diego Comic-Con, and Doctor Doom looks incredible.
As can be seen in the trailer above, Downey's Doctor Doom appears a few moments throughout the footage. This allows fans to not only get a good look at the character's full design, but also see how powerful Doctor Doom is. The MCU villain's biggest moment in the Avengers: Doomsday trailer comes opposite Chris Hemsworth's Thor. The God of Thunder charges at him with his full might, but the force of thunder is no match for Doctor Doom, as Victor easily stops Thor and Stormbreaker by merely raising his hand. Doctor Doom is a formidable villain already.
When Doctor Doom raises his hand to stop Thor, what appears to be a rune can be seen on his glove. This teases the full scope of Doctor Doom's powers in the MCU, as the character will both have a mastery of technology and magic, like he does in the comics. The villain's MCU costume is made up of green and silver armor, with a green hood and cloak combo, and a comics-accurate mask that lets Downey's eyes pierce through, allowing for the actor to let all the character's emotions shine. The design is as good as it gets.
